I knew the meat from Lishman's was going to be good before I'd even been in the shop, as I'd eaten some lovely beef in a local restaurant who'd proudly put their name in the description - which is always a good sign.
David Lishman is a farmer's son, and his meat is top quality, sourced from local farmers who care about animal welfare. They sell proper, dry cured, Yorkshire ham and bacon:
and award winning sausages including gluten free varieties.
Even their salami:
is as local as it can be, as it's Yorkshire salami made on the premises:
Their pies are also home made and excellent, and you can buy wonderful sausage rolls, and hot meat sandwiches, to eat straight away!
There's also a range of deli items and also frozen ready meals, along with a display of some 19th century butchers tools!

There is a new Butchers shop on Tib Street in Manchester (northern quarter) that you might want to check out the next time you're in the city centre. The trend does seem to be going back away from supermarkets to good quality specialised shops!
As I child I used to visit Tib Street to by tropical fish, but was aware of other, rather more dubious businesses... It's great how they've improved the Northern Quarter, and it seems very appropriate for a butcher to be back in this area.
Did you find the map of places I have visited:
