Manchester - The Butchers Quarter

As a small boy, Tib Street, in Manchester's Northern Quarter, was always a place of fascination! I used to keep tropical fish, and there used to be a couple of shops which sold them on Tib Street - along with a lot of dubious businesses - that I was too scared to go in (and my parents were probably relieved I didn't go in)!

Now the Northern Quarter has smartened up its act, and has reinvented itself.
Some of the old markets are occupied by independent traders making hand crafted jewelry etc. Fans of industrial archaeology (like myself) will love the remnants of the old markets:
There's also some great places to eat. You can get a very cheap curry here and North Tea Power does some of the best tea and coffee in Manchester. It's also nice that some shops are going back to their roots - like 66 Tib Street. Here used to be Yate's Butchers (a close relative to Yate's Wine Lodges) and I'm delighted to report that there's now a good old fashioned butchers in this shop.

They sell top quality locally sourced (where possible) meat. So if you're working (or visiting) the countries second city ;-) you can buy a decent lamb chop for your tea:
or chicken kebabs, chicken papillotes etc:
There's also charcuterie etc. from Trealy Farm:
and amazing pies from the Great North Pie Company

and some interesting and unusual cheeses (try their Ogden Original).
