St John’s Wood - Gail's Artisan Bakery

Gail's Artisan Bakery make nearly 30 types of bread every day, including a caramelised garlic bread, a German rye bread and a French dark sourdough (made with a 15-year-old wild yeast starter). In fact they use eight different sourdough starters in the breads. I called at their St John’s Wood branch:
but the word has got out how good they are and they now have 27 branches across London.

There's a great range of savoury items, including these quiches and cheese straws:
I liked how some of the items were quite small, like this smoked salmon sandwich:
- which meant I could try more things! We got a good rate in a posh hotel nearby, but it didn't include breakfast. So we went to Gail's and had a fantastic breakfast there for a fraction of the price.

They do some nice biscuits and cakes - like apple and calvados cake, flourless chocolate cake, pecan tarts, chocolate chip cookies (made with Valhrona chocolate), or oat, pecan and cranberry cookies.
There are also nice brioches and scones - including maple & pecan drop scones.
As it's Easter, it's a good place for hot cross buns:
and these rabbit biscuits and cakes I spotted in the window:
