St John's Wood - Panzer's

Panzers wonderful deli, in St John's Wood, is a real Aladdin's cave! I wasn't aware of this shop, but happened to be passing by when this stunning display of fruit and vegetables outside the shop caught my eye.
I quickly did some research and found this was a must visit shop! It's been in St John's Wood since 1955. I think Giles Coren once said no Jew should live more than two miles from Panzer! However, as it's changed owners, it's diversified into different foods from all over the world! There's items from the USA, Japan, Russia, South Africa and the Middle East as well as continental items and more local foods.

There's a good deli counter:
where you can buy a wide range of salami and hams.

There's an interesting cheese counter:
with items like Pecorino with Truffles. They have a reputation for their smoked salmon:
There's all manner of other items, like marinated garlic, and chopped octopus:
There's sweet and sour cucumber, chopped liver, quiche and marinated artichokes:
Lovers of Italian food can buy fresh Bela Emilia fresh pasta, from Modena in Italy.

There's an interesting dairy section, with lots of alternatives if you don't like (or can't have) cows' milk. There's butter from goats' milk from Delamere Dairy, and a choice of French butters including organic.

If you like French yoghurt, they sell La fermière and Baskalia products:
If you prefer your dairy produce from somewhere closer to home, they've got River Cottage Guernsey yoghurt:
courtesy of Hugh Fearlessly Eats It All and (for people who prefer goats' milk), there's cheese and probiotic yoghurt from Windrush Valley Goat Dairy in the Cotswolds:
Fermented foods are very popular these days, Panzer's sell a fermented milk drink called Kefir:

If you're taking all this with a pinch of salt, there's even some interesting choices here, like Panzer's Himalayan crystal salt:
There's a good selection balsamic vinegars and lots of different oils at Panzer's, like Apricot Kernel, Avocado, Hazelnut, Macadamia, Virgin Peanut, and Walnut oils:
If you prefer olive oil, there's one for every budget here, including Oro Del Desierto:
and the new harvest from Ravida olive oil:
I haven't got time to mention everything here, every row is packed with interesting surprises!
I asked the manger who showed me round where to eat in London, and it turned out she's worked in a lot of the top places that I was considering - which I think tells you a lot about this shop and its attitude to what they sell. I recommend you visit yourself!
