Edinburgh - Stockbridge Market

One of the highlights of my last visit to Edinburgh was going to Stockbridge and (as it was on a Sunday) I was able to visit the lovely Stockbridge Market.

For those who don't know Stockbridge, it's a Bohemian place towards the north of Edinburgh. A lot of it was built in the 19th century, and I found these Doric pillars supporting a sign advertising an entrance to the old Stockbridge Market saying "Butcher Meat, Fresh Fruit, Fish & Poultry".
After I'd found Pie Not
selling artisan handmade pies with good locally sourced ingredients, I found the Y Not food company:

who revamp traditionally 'unhealthy' sweet treats to make them better for you. They don't use cane sugar and sell wheat and dairy free products like apricot and almond flapjacks and raspberry chocolate brownies.

I love the different names of the stalls, which add a bit of extra fun to shopping!  I then found Aye Love Real Food
who were selling their Great Taste Award winning Scotch eggs (as consumed by Prince Charles) and sausage rolls, made made with rare breed free range pork.

from Berwickshire, sell organic and free range meat and gluten-free and traditional artisan meat products.

had an attractive display of fresh fish
and other items like Blueshell sustainable mussels
and home-made sea food lasagne etc.

sell handmade dressings, infused oils, bespoke balsamics and sauces as well as hot food like pulled pork.
You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables:
including Claire Leslie Farms from Perth
Not all the stands were selling food, and I think having stalls like All Things Wood:
who were selling guitar stands they'd made from seasoned barrel wood, add extra interest to this artisan market.

There's an interesting mixture of local, Scottish and International foods.  I always associate Perthshire with fine Scottish raspberries and was pleased to see Perthshire Preserves:
selling their award winning chutney, honey, jams, jellies and marmalades.  Also from Perthshire were Highland Cottage Kitchen:
who sell traditional home baking made in their cottage in the Perthshire Hills.

Made in Edinburgh, but inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine with European twists, Grumpy Food:
sell rich and herby vegetarian food.

sell authentic Italian “gastronomia”.

were selling fresh authentic curry kits from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand and India.

There's plenty of street food to try:

sell African inspired food.

Or you could go to Scoff Foods, the inventors of the "tattie scone wrap", which was shortlisted for World's Best Sandwich award:
