London - Cockney's Pie & Mash

I'm always interested in traditional dishes, so when I was in London earlier this year I thought it was time I visited a pie and mash shop. Pie and mash has its origins in the East end of London, when the poor relied on eels from the River Thames. In the 18th and 18th century eels were about the only thing that could survive in the heavily polluted river (and were also imported from Holland).

You can buy pie and mash and/or a portion of eels:
The pie is made with minced beef and and is served with mashed potato and liquor.  The liquor is traditionally is made using the water kept from the preparation of the stewed eels and parsley is added.
The prices are very reasonable for a hot and filling meal.
