Cleobury Mortimer

Cleobury Mortimer is in south Shropshire, half way between Ludlow and Kidderminster. It's an attractive town (labelled as "gateway to the Shropshire hills") and it's a lovely drive over the Clee hill to Ludlow.

Of culinary interest in Cleobury Mortimer is a good butcher:
A Hems and Son
14 High St
Cleobury Mortimer
Kidderminster
Worcestershire
DY14 8DG

Tel: 01299 270392

A delicatessen:
Courtneys of Cleobury
16 High St
Cleobury Mortimer
Kidderminster
Worcestershire
DY14 8DG
Tel: 01299 271777
Ceased trading January 2009

My favourite shop is:
G.W. Brown
18 Church St
Cleobury Mortimer
Kidderminster
Worcestershire
DY14 8BX
Tel: 01299 270225

It's a good old fashioned baker with good bread and cakes. Best of all are the pork pies. I've been to Melton Mowbray to sample genuine pork pies, but much prefer the ones from Browns in Cleobury.

The picture below doesn't do it justice:

I think the business could be for sale so get there fast!

Since writing this post Brown's have ceased trading and their pork pies are just a happy memory :-(.

Disagree about Copes, the new owner isn't a patch on the previous ne. They don't seem to know whether they're a butchers or a "corner shop".

I think Copes is a great shop who provide a quality service and employ nice staff. Clearly the above is unemployed and uneducated.
