I'll give you two good reason's for visiting Birkenhead! The first is to see Birkenhead Park, which is the first ever public municipal park in the world (and influenced the design of many parks around the world including New York's Central Park). The second reason is to go Ward's Fish. It's now situated in Birkenhead Market and the business has been run by the Ward family since 1927.
They stock over 100 varieties of fish and shellfish. They sell Loch Duart salmon, which is approved under the RSPCA Freedom Food Scheme. There's everything from cockles, Filey crab, Manx kippers, Southport potted shrimps, Welsh peeled shrimps, to whelks!
Besides the seafood, there's other fine foods like Label Anglais chicken and Kelly Bronze turkey, venison, quince paste, wild mushrooms and Italian Umbrian black, white and summer truffles when in season.
